The history of witchcraft in America from the Salem witch trials through to the present day. Light bumping to corners, very faint reading crease to spine, laminate layer lifting slightly at top of front wrapper, internally clean and tight, a near very good copy £3.50

Durbin, H, Witchcraft at the Lamb Inn Bristol, 1800, Vance Harvey 1971, 8vo, green cloth with gilt titles to spine and front board,  4 + 60pp, a facsimile of the original edition with a new introduction by R.A Gilbert, edition limited to 1000 copies. A controversial poltergeist case witnessed by the author, who attributed the phenomena to the presence of witchcraft. Spine ends and corners slightly worn, internally clean and tight. A very good copy £18

Ginzburg, C, The Night Battles, 1963, 1st English edition, Routledge, Kegan & Paul 1983, 8vo, green cloth with silver titles to spine, 22 + 209pp including index, with a foreword by Eric Hobsbawm, translated by J & A. Tedeschi. A study of witchcraft and the Agrarian cults of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, principally the benandanti, an Italian fertility cult who regarded themselves as professional anti-witches. Minor spotting to very top of rear inner flap of dust jacket, otherwise a near fine copy in like d/w £20

Guazzo, F.M, Compendium Maleficarum, 1608, 1st English edition, John Rodker 1929, 4to, quarter charcoal buckram over red cloth boards with gilt titles to spine and illustration to front board, top edge stained dark grey, others uncut, title page rubricated, 22 + 206pp, with 45 woodcuts in the text, number 775 of a hand numbered limited edition of 1275 copies, translated by E.A Ashwin, edited and with notes by Montague Summers.  The third volume in Rodker’s Church and Witchcraft series, complete in three books in the one volume, and considered to be one of the most important ‘witch manuals’,  it is based upon early trial records and contains much on witches demonic pacts, poisons, and a catalogue of demons based on the earlier work of Michael Psellus. The splendid series of woodcuts have become a veritable mine for virtually every pictorial history of witchcraft since. A few minor marks to covers, spine ends rubbed, lower corner of front cover bumped, edges of text block and end papers browned, inner hinges very slightly strained, owner’s book plate to front paste-down, minor spots to the odd margin, text clean and tight. A near very good copy of the scarce first English issue £95

Simple spells for healing, love, success, etc. Covers slightly rubbed, rear cover lightly marked, contents clean and tight. Very good £1.50

W15AB. Hill, F, A Delusion of Satan, 1995, 1st U.K edition, Hamish Hamilton 1996, 8vo, black cloth, 18 + 269pp including index + 8pp plates. A modern investigation of the Salem witch trials. Edges of text block a little soiled, text lightly but evenly tanned, and otherwise clean and tight. Very good in very good – (lightly rubbed, top edge a little worn, crease to front inner flap) d/w £5
