Deacon, R, Matthew Hopkins: Witch Finder General, 1st edition, Frederick Muller 1976, 8vo, black cloth with silver titles to spine, 223pp including index + 8pp plates; a sound biographical study, including material on Hopkins’ methods and an overview of East Anglian witchcraft during the 17th century, together with trial accounts. A near fine copy of this uncommon title in very good (edges lightly rubbed in places, a few minor marks) d/w £15

Durbin, H, Witchcraft at the Lamb Inn Bristol, 1800, Vance Harvey 1971, 8vo, green cloth with gilt titles to spine and front board,  4 + 60pp, a facsimile of the original edition with a new introduction by R.A Gilbert, edition limited to 1000 copies. A controversial poltergeist case witnessed by the author, who attributed the phenomena to the presence of witchcraft. Spine ends and corners slightly worn, internally clean and tight. A very good copy £18

Farrar, J & S, Spells and How They Work, 1990, B.C.A 1993, large 8vo, black cloth with gilt titles to spine, 191pp, with a few illustrations in the text + 4pp plates, a practical guide within the framework of modern Wicca. Minor soil mark to lower part of rear board, faint soiling to edges of text block, internally clean and tight, very good in good + (some light edge creasing, lower part of rear panel lightly soiled, and marked with a couple of small closed splits) d/w £3.50

A study of witchcraft and the Agrarian cults of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, principally the benandanti, an Italian fertility cult who regarded themselves as professional anti-witches. Minor spotting to very top of rear inner flap of dust jacket, otherwise a near fine copy in like d/w £20
