M92. Hartland, E.S, Primitive Paternity, 1st edition, David Nutt 1909, 2 volumes complete, 8vo, dark blue cloth with gilt titles to spines, 8 + 325pp & 2 + 328pp including index. A monumental study of the myth of supernatural birth in relation to the history of family; including chapters on magical practices to obtain children, the mother and father right, etc. Ex lib, file numbers to spines and verso of title pages, book plates to front end papers, stamps to end papers, title pages and some margins. Spines slightly snagged at head, minor spots to a few margins, text clean and tight. Overall, a good + set in the original cloth £20

M94AD. Haye, A .O, The Persecution of the Knights Templars, 1st and only edition, Thomas George Stevenson 1865, Cr8vo, blind decorated green cloth with gilt titles to spine, 16 + 223pp, with a title page vignette, a frontispiece, and two full page illustrations; an entertaining history focussing on the persecution and subsequent demise of the Templars, together with appendices reproducing relevant documents, and some account of their remembrance amongst later writers such as Von Hammer and Sir Walter Scott. With the ownership inscription of Scottish historian and antiquary David Hay Fleming to the front end papers, indicating the book was a gift from its author, together with notes to the rear end papers and very occasional marginalia in Fleming’s hand, along with related cuttings on Templar publications from book sellers catalogues tipped to the rear paste-down. Following his death in 1932, Fleming’s collection was left as a reference library, consequently this copy has their book plate and file number to the front paste-down. Wear to spine ends, with small splits to top of joints and a couple of tiny chips to foot of back-strip, smallish white stain and a few tiny spots to the front board, light wear to corners, some splitting to end papers at gutter but hinges remaining relatively firm, end papers browned, a couple of small closed marginal tears without loss, some minor spotting to first few leaves and occasionally throughout, mainly to margins, text tight and largely very clean, overall a good sound and interesting presentation copy of a very scarce book £90

A, The Two Babylons, or the Papal Worship proved to be the Worship of Nimrod and his Wife, 1861, 4th edition, reprinted, Partridge & Co. 1965, 8vo, blue cloth with silver titles to spine, 22 + 330pp including index, illustrations in text; a controversial study, attempting to show the roots of Papal Christianity amongst the ancient pagan religions of Babylon and the near east. Light rubbing to corners and spine ends, edges of text block and end papers spotted, text clean and tight, very good in good + (lightly soiled, spine panel darkened and rubbed, some light wear to edges, small closed split to lower spine fold) d/w £10

M0101. Hitching, F, The World Atlas of Mysteries, 1978, BCA 1979, large 4to, brown cloth, 256pp including index, with photographs and other illustrations in the text throughout. Looks at various mysteries, both ancient and modern, including mysteries of the Universe, earth patterns, unknown energies, ancient civilizations, unknown animals, etc. Very good + in very good – (a little marked and edge-worn) d/w £2

M101A, Hobley, C.W, Bantu Beliefs and Magic, 1922, 2nd edition, revised and enlarged, Witherby 1938, 8vo, blue cloth with gilt titles to spine, 369pp including index + a frontispiece and 11 plates; a sound study of Bantu religion and magical practice, with particular reference to the Kikuyu and Kamba tribes of Kenya. Very slight fading to spine,  top part of boards very rubbed and marked, smallish chip to cloth at top edge of front board, spotting to edges of text block, minor spots to  the odd margin, text clean and tight, still a good + overall and internally better copy £20

(Hockley, F), Abraham the Jew on Magic Talismans, 1st edition, Teitan Press 2011, 8vo, black cloth with gilt titles to spine and gilt design to front board, 16 + 48 + a coloured frontispiece and 84pp coloured reproduction of the original manuscript; edited and with an introduction by Silenus Manus, number 492 of a hand numbered limited edition of 650 copies, with a photocopy of the 4pp addendum added to some copies loosely inserted. The original of Hockley’s manuscript is given in its entirety, together with introduction, transcription, and related passages from Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy, fine £40

Homet, M, Sons of the Sun, 1st English edition, Neville Spearman 1963, 8vo, red cloth with gilt titles to spine, 237pp, with a few illustrations in the text and a full page map + 76 plates, translated from the German by E.R. Hapgood; a firsthand study of the rites and traditions of the Amazon Basin compared to those of the Mediterranean. Edges of text block slightly spotted, trivial spots to end papers otherwise internally clean and tight. Blank upper corner clipped from front end paper otherwise a very good copy £12

Hapgood; an investigation into the sun as a divinity, primarily among the Gavioes people of South America, but also showing parallels within Ireland, India, and the near east. Ex lib. stamps/ to verso of title and blank lower margin of final page, lacks front end paper, edges of text block spotted, a few spots to prelims, text proper clean and tight, good + overall £8

Hope, M, Practical Egyptian Magic, 1st edition, Aquarian Press 1984, 8vo, black cloth, 192pp including index, with a few illustrations in text; a complete manual of Egyptian magical practices, including safe and simple rituals adapted for present day use; slight staining to head of spine and top few inches of upper joint, 5  runes inked on each edge of text block, crease to a couple of pages where they have been previously turned, internally clean and tight, still a near very good overall copy of the increasingly uncommon first issue in very good + ( minor rubbing to edges, slight crease to top edge near spine fold) d/w £18
