Drummond, W, Oedipus Judaicus, 1811, Bracken 8vo pbk. 1996, 72 + 381pp + 16 plates (on ordinary paper).  A series of dissertations on Genesis and the books of Judges and Joshua that attempt to show them as astronomical allegories, together with a preliminary notice on ancient astronomy.  Edges of covers lightly rubbed, crease to lower corner of rear cover, slightly affecting corners of last few leaves, text lightly tanned, otherwise clean and tight. Good + £2.50

Edges of covers rather rubbed, covers lightly marked in places, edges of text block soiled, ownership signature to half title, marginal scoring to a couple of pages, text clean and tight. Good + overall £6

Ellis, N, Dreams of Isis, 1st edition, Theosophical Publishing House 1995, reprinted, tall 8vo, quarter brown cloth over papered boards, gilt titles to spine, 8 + 417pp; the author’s personal odyssey in search of the myths and traditions of the Egyptian Isis. Trivial spots to lower part of fore-edge of text block otherwise fine in near fine d/w £3.50

Erskine, W.H, Japanese Customs: Their Origin and Value, 1st edition, Kyo Bun Kwan, no date (1925), 8vo, maroon cloth with gilt design to front board and gilt titles to front board and spine, 12 + 238pp including index + a frontispiece and 11pp plates. Includes chapters on Emperor Worship, Shinto Cult dances, Ancestor Worship, Idolatry, etc. Spine ends and corners rubbed, end papers lightly spotted, title page lightly but evenly tanned, one manuscript correction, text otherwise clean and tight. A near very good copy overall of the uncommon first printing £25

M55B. Estabrooks, G.A, Hypnotism, 1943, 1st British edition, Museum Press 1959, 8vo, black cloth with silver titles to spine, 251pp including index. A practical study of ‘mesmerism’, ranging from its medical benefits through to its use in warfare and much in between, this now extremely scarce first British issue is based upon the 1957 revised edition. Ex lib, faint tape traces to edges of boards, tape traces and label removal marks to paste-downs, ticket pocket to rear end paper, stamp to verso of title; front end paper crudely renewed, edges of text block spotted, thumb soil marks and a few minor spots to the odd margin, text clean and tight, overall still a just about good + and comparatively cheap copy in like (a few minor soil marks and light rubbing to edges in places, inner flaps clipped without affecting text but otherwise complete) d/w £20
