Degraaff, R.M, The Book of the Toad, 1st edition, Park Street Press 4to pbk. 1991, 16 + 208pp including index, with illustrations in the text, some in colour; an interesting guide to the natural and magical history of toad-human relations. Closed tear to upper part of back-strip without loss, slight bumping to corners, minor spots to half title otherwise internally clean and tight, good + overall £2.50

M45. De Givry, E.G, Witchcraft, Magic and Alchemy, 1929, 1st English edition, George Harrap & Co. 1931, 4to, black cloth with gilt titles to spine and front board, 395pp, with 366 illustrations in the text + 10 coloured plates, top edge gilt, translated from the French by J. Courtenay Locke; a splendid pictorial history of witchcraft, magic, alchemy, and other occult sciences, arguably the best work of its kind, and unusual in combining a reliable, if somewhat Francophile text with its wonderful set of illustrations. Light rubbing to corners and spine ends, a little damp spotting around the edges of the boards, end papers and half title foxed, some very occasional light marginal spotting, very slightly affecting text on one page, which is otherwise clean and tight. A good + or arguably very slightly better overall copy of the increasingly scarce first English issue, with later reprints failing to do justice to the quality of the French original, which is particularly evident in the reproduction of the coloured plates £120

Doresse, J, The Secret Books of the Egyptian Gnostics, 1958, 1st English edition, Hollis & Carter 1960, 8vo, red cloth with gilt titles to spine, top edge stained red, 18 + 445pp including index, with one text illustration + a frontispiece and 8 plates; an excellent study of Gnostic thought as revealed through the Chenoboskion manuscripts, including the first English translation and critical evaluation of the Gospel of Thomas. Edges of text block spotted, trivial spots to the odd margin otherwise internally and externally clean and tight, a very good copy in near very good (A few crease marks, light soiling to rear panel, light chipping to ends of spine panel) d/w £20

Drummond, W, Oedipus Judaicus, 1811, Bracken 8vo pbk. 1996, 72 + 381pp + 16 plates (on ordinary paper).  A series of dissertations on Genesis and the books of Judges and Joshua that attempt to show them as astronomical allegories, together with a preliminary notice on ancient astronomy.  Edges of covers lightly rubbed, crease to lower corner of rear cover, slightly affecting corners of last few leaves, text lightly tanned, otherwise clean and tight. Good + £2.50

Corners rubbed, a couple of faint crease marks to spine, trivial soiling to edges of text block, internally clean and tight, a very good copy, and uncommon signed £18
